Student Research Presentation Competition

Important Dates

Call for Entries

Technology, Technology Management, Applied Engineering and other technology program students (undergraduate through doctoral level) are invited to submit an abstract of on-going research and/or results of your research for the ATMAE 2015 Student Research Presentation Competition. Research must include data collection and analysis. Theoretical and proposal stage research is not enough for this competition. Students must be currently enrolled in a program and not yet graduated at the time of the competition. ATMAE University Division leaders will review and select the top six abstract submissions for the competition presentation session held at the 2015 ATMAE Conference. Winner will receive a $250 prize and certificate.

All students who submit abstracts for the research competition must have a faculty sponsor/mentor to ensure that proper research guidance is provided. The faculty sponsor/mentor for each student finalist who is asked to present at the 2015 ATMAE Conference will be contacted to ensure that research has been conducted with the guidance of a qualified researcher and that all research is compliant with human subject guidelines.

Finalists selected to present their research are required to be active ATMAE members and must attend the ATMAE 2015 Conference.

 


Abstract Format

  • One page
  • 8.5” x 11”, with no less than 1” margins on all sides.
  • Font size 12-point, Arial Narrow is recommended. Do not submit “read only” documents.
  • Please do not use ALL UPPER CASE text. Use Bold for headings and italics for subheadings.

Abstract Content

Required sections:

  • 1) Title
  • 2) Author information: Name, degree program name and status (i.e. Undergraduate, MS program, PhD candidate, DIT candidate, etc.), sponsoring institution, mailing address, daytime phone number, and email address
  • 3) Faculty Sponsor Name, phone and email
  • 4) Need (statement on why the presentation/research is needed)
  • 5) Overview of study
  • 6) Major Points (bullets recommended)
  • 7) Summary or Conclusion   

The Abstract Should

  • Clearly articulate the research or work undertaken
  • Use correct language, spelling, and grammar
  • Convey a topic of current interest or relevance

Research Sponsor
  • Your research sponsor should provide guidance, assistance, feedback in developing and refining oral presentation, poster, video and to ensure proper professional attire is understood
  • Enlist support from institution as appropriate
  • Ensure that finalist will be able to attend 2015 ATMAE Conference

Emails on acceptance of abstracts for competition will be sent on October 19th.


 Part 2: The Competition at the ATMAE Conference

Presentation, Thursday November 12: Based on the merits of the submitted abstract, six students will be selected to make 15-minute presentations of on-going research and/or results on Thursday, November 12th at the 2015 ATMAE conference. The competition time is 1:30 p.m. to ~ 3:00 p.m.

  • The competitors will make a 15-minute presentation, followed by a 5-minute question and answer session.
  • Competitors are also expected to incorporate a media or PowerPoint component into their presentation.
Judging Criteria: Selected participants in the conference competition session will have their presentation evaluated on the factors of Technical Content, Methodology, Personal Appearance, Oral Presentation, and Media - Power Point Presentation (see Judging Criteria).

Award:
  • The winner of the 2015 ATMAE Student Research Competition will be announced at the ATMAE Conference Reception on Friday, November 13th. The winner is required to attend the reception in order to receive their award.
  • The winner will be presented a certificate and a $250 cash award following the conference.
